Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, NC seeks an Educational Interpreter I to support deaf or hard-of-hearing students in classrooms and school activities. Under supervision, you will interpret/transliterate while collaborating with teachers to address student needs.

The role requires a degree in educational interpreting or related field and an EIPA score of 3.3 or higher, with prior experience preferred. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Mecklenburg County.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in educational interpreting or related field required.
• Minimum score of 3.3 on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) required.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Facilitate communication between the student and peers/adults.
• Study lesson content prior to class to ensure accurate representation.
• Tutor deaf or hard-of-hearing students under the teacher's direction.
• Provide feedback to teachers upon request.
• Promote positive relationships within the school environment.
• Teach beginning sign language as needed/required.
• Participate in professional development workshops and continuing education.
• Create an inclusive environment with positive communication.
