Job summary

TrulyHired seeks an Educational Interpreter I in Charlotte, NC to support deaf or hard of hearing students in classrooms and activities. Under supervision, you will interpret/transliterate, assist teachers, and help ensure accurate lesson communication.

The role requires an Associate degree in educational interpreting or related field and an EIPA score of 3.3 or higher, with prior related experience preferred. Some travel and training are involved.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in educational interpreting or related field required.
• Minimum score of 3.3 on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) required.
• Prior related experience preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Facilitate communication between the student and peers and between student and adults in the school environment.
• Study lesson content prior to class to ensure accurate representation of the material.
• Tutor students who are deaf or hard of hearing under teacher supervision.
• Provide feedback to teachers upon request.
• Serve as a liaison to promote positive and cooperative relationships within the school environment.
• Teach beginning sign language to students or staff as needed/required.
• Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities.
• Create an inclusive environment with positive communication and public relations.
• Perform related work as assigned or required.
