Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking an Educational Interpreter I to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in classrooms and school activities. The role involves interpreting/transliterating under moderate supervision, facilitating classroom communication, and ensuring accurate lesson representations.

The position requires an Associate degree in educational interpreting and an EIPA score of 3.3, with possible prior related experience.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in educational interpreting or related field required.
• Minimum score of 3.3 on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) required.
• Prior related experience preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Facilitate communication between the student and their peers, and the student and adults in the school environment.
• Study the content of lessons prior to class to ensure accurate representation of the lesson.
• Tutor students who are deaf or hard of hearing under the direction of the teacher.
• Provide feedback to teachers upon request.
• Serve as a liaison to promote positive and cooperative relationships within the school environment.
• Teach beginning sign language to students or staff, as needed/required.
• Participate in professional development workshops and continuing education opportunities.
• Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations.
• Perform related work as assigned or required.
