Job summary

California State University, Northridge invites applications for an hourly Interpreter (Pool) to support academic classes across departments with rapid and accurate sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation.

The role requires extensive knowledge of American Sign Language, Deaf Culture, and interpreting methods, with capacity to work in complex settings such as conferences and meetings. Interpreters may mentor peers and participate in employee training as needed.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of American Sign Language, English sign systems, Deaf Culture, and interpreting methods used to support deaf and hard-of-hearing consumers in academic, meeting, and platform settings.
• Ability to provide accurate sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation in advanced academic coursework, department meetings, and conferences.
• Experience mentoring interpreters and training staff is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interpreting in academic classes across various levels with rapid interaction and specialized subject matter.
• Interpreting in department, college, and university-level meetings critical to department life.
• Interpreting in conferences, workshops, seminars, and platform settings with multiple consumers.
• Mentoring other interpreters and providing training at employee in-service programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
