Job summary

Visaphonics seeks qualified Sign Language Interpreters to support elementary students in the Virginia Beach area. The contract offers 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from August 25, 2026 through June 15, 2027, with 1:1 interpretation during the school day.

Assignments may shift between campuses to ensure coverage. Commitment to student-centered interpretation is essential; Visaphonics proficiency is appreciated but not required. Travel between schools in the region is possible.

Qualifications

• VA QA Screening Level III certification is required.
• EIPA score 3.5+ preferred; scores above 3.0 or QAS 3+ interviewable.
• Experience interpreting for elementary students in educational settings.
• Willingness to travel between campuses within the region.

Two contract positions are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters to work one-on-one with elementary-aged students in the Virginia Beach area. This assignment begins August 25, 2026, and continues through June 15, 2027, offering a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Your assignments may shift between school locations, ensuring you have dynamic and meaningful experiences while supporting students who may not always be present at their home campus.

While Visaphonics proficiency is appreciated, it is not required—commitment to student-centered, high-quality interpretation takes top priority.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification is required
• Strong preference for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5+; applicants with scores above 3.0 or a QAS score of 3 or better will also be interviewed
• Experience interpreting in educational settings, especially with elementary students, is highly valued
• Flexibility to work across different campuses based on student assignments
• Professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
• Positive attitude and genuine passion for supporting accessible learning
