Job summary

BIRCH AGENCY seeks a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support students in the Mechanicsburg, PA area for the upcoming school year. You will provide real-time interpretation across classrooms, meetings, and school events, ensuring comprehension and access to education.

Responsibilities include preparing materials, adapting delivery to individual needs, and collaborating with Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing and staff to foster an inclusive Deaf-friendly climate.

Qualifications

• BA or Associate’s degree in Educational Interpreting.
• Minimum score of 3.5 on Educational Interpreter’s Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) OR RID certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpretive services as specified in the IEP.
• Interpret lectures, discussions, classroom activities, school meetings, trainings and conferences.
• Adapt interpretations to the varying needs of students and staff.
• Collaborate with teachers and school staff to optimize educational opportunities.
• Provide interpretation for assemblies, field trips, meetings, tests, calls, and extra‑curricular events.

Education

Birch Agency is actively recruiting Sign Language Interpreters for the Mechanicsburg, PA area for the upcoming school year. Our Sign Language Interpreters design and implement services based on the specific needs of the students. We understand that needs of students in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community can vary widely depending on the student’s experience with sign language and academic performance level. Services Provided By Sign Language Interpreters

• Provide sign language interpretive services as specified in the IEP
• Interpret information, lectures, discussion, classroom activities, school meetings, trainings and conferences
• Prepare and study subject matter being taught or presented to ensure clear interpretation
• Adapts interpretations to the varying and diverse needs and abilities of students, and/or teachers, and/or community members
• Provides interpretation for various situations, such as assemblies, field trips, meetings, test administration, phone calls, music, extra-curricular activities, and sports events
• Interprets informal conversations with students and staff during unstructured time
• Participate as a team member for planning and reviewing daily activities, attending in-services and information sharing for the purpose of optimizing the staff and student participation in the educational environment
• Provide staff with information regarding the interpretation process as well as needs and concerns of individuals who are D/HH for the purpose of creating a positive Deaf friendly climate
• Collaborate with Teachers of the D/HH, other classroom teachers and other school staff to provide the optimum educational opportunities
