Job summary

Williamsport Area School District seeks substitutes and future positions for sign language interpreters serving deaf and hard of hearing students. Using American Sign Language, Pidgin Sign Language, and Voice Interpreting, you will facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers during lessons and events.

Education requirements include a high school diploma, and a score of at least 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).

Qualifications

Requires score of at least 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) at the appropriate level.
High school diploma required.
Previous experience as an interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing is required.

Responsibilities

Provide sign language interpreting for deaf or hard of hearing students using American Sign Language, Pidgin Sign Language, and Voice Interpreting.
Facilitate communication between students, teachers, hearing peers, and staff.
Serve as interpreter at meetings and special events and participate in IEP team discussions.
Maintain confidentiality of all student and school information.
Operate and adapt to classroom equipment and augmented technology as needed.
Collaborate with the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and other staff to support student progress.
