Job description

The interpreter shall provide Sign Language Interpreting Services from American Sign Language (ASL) to English and English to ASL.

Activities will include interpretation for deaf and hard-of-hearing employees in various settings. Interpreter services may range from simple to complex and may be sensitive in nature.

Our candidates will excel at working in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while staying in the interpreter role while upholding the following skills:

1. Strong listening, research, memory, and sign language skills.
2. The ability to sign in many situations, including private meetings and one-on-one settings.
3. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of American Sign Language and Deaf Culture.
5. Must possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with members from a variety of backgrounds.
6. Uphold RID-NAD Professional Code of Conduct.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

1. Fluent in American Sign Language and English.
2. Ability to use Signed English and Manually Coded English is preferred.
3. Must be able to interpret/transliterate fluently and understand the continuum of sign communication.
4. Must be able to proficiently voice to sign as well as sign to voice.
5. Must possess exceptional communication skills, both orally and in writing.
