Job summary

The Chimes, Inc. in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Communication Specialist to support students with IEP-driven needs, including ASL and pro-tactile communication.

You will facilitate information flow between the student, teachers, and family while maintaining sensitivity to each learner’s mode of communication. You will collaborate with transdisciplinary teams to adapt lessons, create or modify AT materials, and accompany the student across settings.

Qualifications

• Must be able to use tactile ASL.
• Proficient in ASL.
• High motivation and positive approach.
• Strong communication and social skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; uses sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates interaction, communication, and transmission of information per the student's needs as identified by the IEP team.
• Relays classroom, educational, and social information to the designated student using pro-tactile when appropriate.
• Collaborates with teachers to break down concepts and tailor curriculum to student needs.
• Works with the student’s transdisciplinary team to implement IEP goals.
• Creates or modifies instructional materials and assistive technology as needed.
• Accompanies and supports the student across all school activities and environments.
• Maintains communication between home and school as needed.
