Job summary

TheChimes School is seeking an Language Acquisition Specialist to support students with diverse communication needs on-site in Maryland. The role focuses on ASL and pro-tactile language modes, translating classroom information, and collaborating with teachers to tailor curricula around each student’s IEP goals.

You will create adaptions to lessons, accompany students across activities, and help manage communications between home and school.

Qualifications

• Ability to use tactile ASL.
• Proficient in American Sign Language.
• High motivation and positive approach.
• Strong communication and social skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; uses sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates interaction and information transmission per student needs (IEP team).
• Interpreting with pro-tactile when teaching and addressing the class.
• Collaborate with teacher to break down concepts and structure curriculum.
• Work with transdisciplinary team to meet IEP goals.
• Create/modify instructional materials and adapt lessons as needed.
• Support student across environments and assist with daily needs.
