Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is recruiting a full-time Registered Nurse 1, SICU, to provide direct patient care in a busy unit. The RN will supervise care activities and support Graduate Nurses and LPNs under Article 139 regulations.

Qualifications include NYS RN license, BSN preferred, and about 1 year of relevant clinical experience. A 55 B/C eligibility pathway may be considered with proof of eligibility.

Qualifications

• Must hold a NYS license and current RN registration.
• BSN preferred; 1 year of relevant clinical experience.
• 55 B/C program eligibility may apply; provide eligibility letter if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare or assist with nursing care plans aligned with treatment plans.
• Carry out treatments, administer medications, monitor patients.
• Maintain accurate nursing records including meds, care, and vitals.
• Participate in development and revision of individual care plans.
• Adjust care plans based on patient condition and response.
• Triage patients and record findings for physician review.
• Refer or assist physicians in emergencies as directed.
• Educate patients and families about health, meds, procedures, and goals.
• Ensure infection control policies are followed; train staff as needed.
