Job summary

The City of Kannapolis is seeking a Shuttle Operator to provide safe, courteous shuttle service on designated routes, perform pre-trip inspections, load/unload passengers, and maintain cleanliness and logs.

The role requires a NC Class B CDL with passenger endorsement, must be 21+, and compliance with DOT safety rules; open until filled.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate shuttle over scheduled routes and adhere to time schedules.
• Park, load/unload passengers, assist riders as needed.
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and maintain cleanliness.
• Provide courteous customer service and address passenger questions.
• Record maintenance logs and report delays or incidents.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and DOT regulations.
• Maintain safe driving history as required by NC DMV.

Hiring Range

$17.74 - $20.41 hourly

Eligibility

Essential Job Functions

• Drive shuttle over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules, complying with traffic regulations to ensure that passengers have a smooth and safe ride.
• Park vehicles at loading areas so that passengers can board.
• Advise passengers to be seated and orderly while on shuttle.
• Perform daily pre-trip shuttle inspection.
• Assist passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off shuttle, ensure they are seated properly and answer questions about schedules or routes.
• Load and unload passengers via accessible ramp as needed.
• Handle passenger emergencies or disruptions.
• Record information, such as maintenance logbook.
• Listen to and sometimes address passenger complaints.
• Ensure the shuttle route stays on schedule.
• Account for all passengers before leaving the location.
• Report delays or accidents.
• Maintain cleanliness of shuttle.
• Working independently to provide superior customer service to shuttle passengers.
• Responsible for attentive operation of assigned shuttle in accordance with established safety protocols.
• Shuttle Operator must possess and maintain a NC Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with a passenger (P) endorsement for the duration of employment with a 3-year safe driving history verified by a NC Division of Motor Vehicles
• This position has been classified as DOT regulated and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
• Must be 21 years of age with a valid NC driver’s license.
• Enforces rules and regulations at parks and facilities.
• Performs routine cleaning and custodial duties.
• Performs related tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working and detailed knowledge of the specific operation in one or more of the concentrated areas of this position is required. Some supervisory experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and training. Must have the ability to get along well with others; and the ability to work unusual hours, especially nights and weekends. Must pass a drug test and criminal background check.

Acceptable Experience and Training

High school graduate or GED; must be at least 21 years of age.
