Job Summary

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for transportation of guests to and from the Emergency Shelter Program. The objective of this position is to safely drive and help maintain the shuttling vehicles associated with the program, enabling guests to access and leave the site safely and orderly. In addition to driving, the driver performs route planning, safety checks, and provides shelter logistics support during non‑driving time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Drive program vehicles safely and orderly to predetermined approved locations.
• Check that all safety restraints are in working order and used correctly when needed.
• Maintain overall cleanliness of the vehicles.
• Safely load all guests in the safest way possible.
• Safely and appropriately use hydraulic wheelchair lifts.
• Type and plan daily routes based on several possible drop‑off locations.
• Generate daily and weekly route and maintenance reports for management.
• Meet transportation goals in a challenging and ever‑changing environment.
• Work with a partner to address maintenance issues as needed.
• Assist in implementation of all shelter activities to ensure quality delivery of services, including meals, laundry, emptying trash, and overall cleanliness of the facility.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Attend training workshops as needed.
• Perform ad hoc projects as appointed by Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Valid and up‑to‑date CA Class C Driver’s License.
• Clean driving record with no limitations; comfortable driving large vehicles (approx. 24 ft length) with wide turning radius.
• High level of tolerance and understanding for individuals with urgent, multiple case management and health needs.
• Detail‑oriented with computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet browsers (preferred).
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population; plan, organize, prioritize duties; crisis intervention as needed; communicate verbally and in written form; maintain a positive, professional, and safe environment while on duty; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Dependability, responsibility, and respectful communication skills.
• Fluency in Spanish is a significant value.

Physical Requirements

• Lift, bend, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Remain focused and drive safely despite constant distractions.
