Job summary

Mercy House in Ventura, CA is seeking a Shuttle Driver (Full-Time, non-exempt) to transport guests to and from the Emergency Shelter Program. You will safely drive program vehicles, plan routes, perform safety checks, and support shelter operations when not driving.

The role requires a valid CA Class C license, a clean driving record, comfort driving large vehicles, and basic computer skills. Bilingual Spanish is valued, and you will collaborate with staff to ensure meals, laundry, and site

Qualifications

• CA Class C driver's license required with clean driving record.
• Ability to drive large vehicles (~24' length) with wide turning radius.
• Detail-oriented with computer proficiency in MS Word/Excel/Outlook.
• Fluency in Spanish is valued.

Responsibilities

• Drive program vehicles in a safe, orderly manner to approved locations.
• Perform safety checks on restraints and vehicle cleanliness.
• Load guests safely and assist with wheelchair lifts as needed.
• Plan routes and generate daily/weekly reports for management.
• Assist shelter activities (meals, laundry, trash, cleanliness).
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; support ad hoc projects.

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt | Pay: $22.50/hour | Schedule: Sunday-Monday: 1:30pm-9:30pm, Tuesday: 3:00pm-11:00pm, Friday-Saturday: 5:30am-1:30pm, Wednesday-Thursday: OffJob Summary: The Shuttle Driver is responsible for the transportation of guests to and from the Emergency Shelter Program. The objective of this position is to safely drive and help to maintain the shuttling vehicles associated with the program, so that guests may access and leave the site in a safe and orderly manner. In addition to driving, this position requires route planning, safety checks, and providing shelter logistics support during non-driving time.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Driving, Reporting, and Shelter SupportDrive program vehicles in a safe and orderly manner to predetermined approved locationsCheck that all safety restraints are in working order and are used correctly when neededMaintain the overall cleanliness of the vehiclesSafely load all guests in the safest way possibleSafely and appropriately use hydraulic wheelchair liftsType and plan daily routes based off several possible drop-off locationsGenerate daily and weekly route and maintenance reports, to be turned into management for recordsMeet transportation goals in a challenging and always changing atmosphereWork with a partner to see maintenance issues taken care of as neededAssist in the implementation of all shelter activities to ensure quality delivery of services, including meals, laundry, emptying trash, and overall cleanliness of the facilityMiscellaneous:Attend staff meetingsAttend training workshops as neededPerform ad hoc projects as appointed by SupervisorRequirements:Education and ExperienceA valid and up-to-date CA Class C Driver’s License is requiredThis person must possess a clean driving record with no limitations, and must be comfortable driving large vehicles (averaging 24’ in length) with wide turning ratiosPossess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who are present for services with urgent multiple case management and health needsThis person must be detail‐oriented and computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet-based browsers is preferredGeneralAbility to work effectively with a diverse population; plan, organize and prioritize duties; crisis intervention as needed; clearly communicate information and instructions verbally and in written form; maintain a positive, professional and safe environment while on duty; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with othersDependability, responsibility, and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully are mandatory skillsFluency in Spanish is of significant valuePhysical RequirementsAbility to lift, pull, or push up to 50 poundsCandidates should be able to remain focused and able to drive safely despite constant distractionsMercy House is an E-Verify employer.
