Job summary

Mercy House in Huntington Beach is seeking a Shuttle Driver to transport guests to and from the Emergency Shelter Program. You will plan routes, perform safety checks, and help with shelter logistics when not driving.

The role requires operating large vehicles, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting in meals and facility upkeep. The position is part-time, non-exempt with a starting pay of $22.00/hour, and a schedule that includes Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday shifts.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to operate large vehicles (~24 feet) with wide turning radii.
• Strong communication and crisis handling when assisting shelter guests.
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work with diverse populations.
• Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Drive program vehicles to predetermined locations in a safe, orderly manner.
• Perform safety checks and ensure seat belts and restraints are functional.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and assist with shelter logistics tasks.
• Load guests safely and operate wheelchair lifts as needed.
• Plan daily routes and generate routine transportation reports.
• Support shelter activities such as meals, laundry, and facility upkeep.
• Attend staff meetings and training; assist with ad hoc projects.

The objective of this position is to safely drive and help to maintain the shuttling vehicles associated with the program, so that guests may access and leave the site in a safe and orderly manner.
