Pay: Starting at $25/hr. depending on experience

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Shop Foreman, operates electric welding apparatus and acetylene welding apparatus to fuse metal parts together using either arc welding process or oxy-acetylene method.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  1. Safely and efficiently use welding tools, cut, layout, fit, and weld sheet metal, other metal or alloyed parts to fabricate or repair equipment.
  2. Receive daily tasks from supervisor for specific projects or tasks of the day.
  3. Read blueprints for specific job tasks.
  4. Repair equipment and perform plant maintenance using welding tools such as grinders, wire brushes, cutting torches, or cutting discs.
  5. Fabricate necessary parts using welding machines or oxy-acetylene torches.
  6. Lifting varying weights occasionally, up to 50 lbs.
  7. Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Wear PPE as required.
  8. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License Class B may be required.
  9. Follow Foreman’s directions regarding daily tasks and project expectations.
  10. Perform minor servicing and maintenance of welding equipment and supplies.
  11. Conduct daily pre-and-post inspections of trucks with proper documentation.
  12. Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  13. Ensure reliable attendance.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED
  • Technical education or certification in basic welding and fitting
  • Welding Certification approved by State is preferred, but not required
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of welding techniques such as TIG, MIG, STICK
  • Experience with welding tools such as grinders, generators, welding apparatus, drill presses, lathes, punches, shears, band saws
  • Material knowledge of metals and alloys
  • Decision-making ability
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, and manuals
  • Effective communication skills for presenting information in various situations
Physical Requirements

The physical demands include driving, handling tools and objects up to 50 lbs, talking, hearing, climbing, and sitting. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Tasks involve climbing, lifting, carrying, bending, pushing/pulling, reaching, kneeling, stooping, twisting, and working in noisy, dusty, hot, or cold environments with appropriate PPE.

Work Environment

Exposure to noise, fumes, gases, dust, and hazards from mechanical parts. PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, vests, gloves, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, or respirators are required.
