Patterson-UTI is seeking an entry-level Shop Technician I to support drill bit manufacturing. The role is onsite, with no relocation assistance, and reports to the Shop Supervisor. You will perform routine shop tasks ensuring production runs smoothly and maintain a clean, safe work area.

The position involves hands-on duties such as sandblasting, grinding, painting, and brazing material prep, with a focus on safety and adherence to procedures. Prior shop experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Operate grinders, sandblasters, hoists and other standard shop equipment.
  • Good physical ability to bend, stoop, sit, walk and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Finger dexterity and visual acuity for precision work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sandblasting and grinding operations on drill bits and components.
  • Wash and clean bits, cutters, and cans for subsequent manufacturing steps.
  • Paint drill bits and related components per quality standards.
  • Prepare bits, cutters, and brazing materials for brazing processes to spec.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area following procedures.
  • Operate shop tools safely in line with guidelines and policies.
  • Follow safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Adhere to bit documentation and management instructions, completing tasks on time.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and address issues.
  • Perform other shop duties as assigned by management.

The Shop Technician I performs various shop functions to support the manufacturing of drill bits. This entry-level role involves hands-on tasks that ensure production runs smoothly, equipment remains in good working condition, and the work environment is safe and clean.

The Shop Technician I works under the supervision of the Shop Supervisor.

This is a fully onsite role with no relocation assistance provided.

Detailed Description
  • Perform sandblasting and grinding operations on drill bits and components.
  • Wash and clean bits, cutters, and cans to prepare them for subsequent manufacturing steps.
  • Paint drill bits and related components as required, adhering to quality standards.
  • Prepare bits, cutters, and brazing materials for the brazing process, ensuring all components meet production specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by sweeping, removing debris, and following company cleanliness standards.
  • Operate grinders, sandblasters, hoists, and other typical shop tools and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines and company policies.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Follow instructions provided by bit documentation and management, completing tasks and procedures accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and address any issues promptly.
  • Perform other shop duties as required or assigned by management.
Job Requirements
  • Ability to operate standard shop equipment, including grinders, sandblasters, and hoists.
  • Good physical ability to bend, stoop, sit, walk, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Finger dexterity and visual acuity to handle precision work.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Willingness and availability to work overtime as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with shop tools and manufacturing equipment.
  • Previous experience working in manufacturing or construction.
  • Experience in an oil field environment.
Additional Details

The Shop Technician I must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. The typical work environment will be in the shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
