Job summary

SRM Concrete is seeking a Shop Manager / Diesel Mechanic in New York who combines strong leadership with hands-on diesel expertise. This working manager will mentor a shop team, oversee maintenance of trucks, mixers and heavy equipment, and ensure safety compliance on site and in the shop.

You’ll diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using state-of-the-art tools, while maintaining accurate records and collaborating with operations to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical certification in diesel engine repair is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanics and shop staff, setting safety, efficiency, and quality standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on diesel engines and equipment, including oil changes and filter replacements.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on diesel vehicles and heavy machinery.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify problems and determine solutions.
• Rebuild or replace major diesel engine components (heads, blocks, starters, transmissions).
• Collaborate with operations to schedule maintenance and repairs, minimizing downtime.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies in shop and on job sites.
• Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair work.
• Stay current on diesel engine technology and repair techniques.
• Work hands-on with the team to get the job done.
