Job summary

SRM Concrete in Georgia is seeking a hands-on Shop Manager / Diesel Mechanic to lead a shop team, oversee diesel trucks, mixers and heavy equipment, and perform repairs. You will mentor staff, ensure safety and record-keeping, and drive maintenance schedules.

This role combines leadership with technical expertise: diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel systems, collaborate with operations to minimize downtime, and promote best practices in a busy fleet environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on leader with shop management experience.
• Experience repairing diesel engines and heavy equipment.
• Proven ability to mentor a team and enforce safety.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational certification a plus.
• Experience with preventive maintenance and inspections.
• Ability to read diagnostics and use diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanics and shop staff, setting the standard for safety, efficiency, and quality.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on diesel engines and equipment, including oil changes, lubrications, and filter replacements.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on a variety of diesel vehicles and heavy machinery.
• Use diagnostic equipment and tools to accurately identify problems and determine the best solutions.
• Rebuild, replace, or repair major diesel engine components such as heads, blocks, starters, and transmissions.
• Collaborate with the operations team to schedule maintenance and repairs, minimizing downtime and keeping our fleet delivery-ready.
• Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures in the shop and on job sites.
• Keep detailed and accurate records of all maintenance and repair work.
• Stay current on the latest diesel engine technology, repair techniques, and industry best practices.
• Pitch in wherever needed—this is a hands-on role where you’ll work alongside your team to get the job done.
