Job summary

Western Pacific Crane & Equipment, LLC is seeking a Shop Helper in Fontana, CA to support technicians and the service team in safe maintenance and repair of cranes and lifting equipment. You will assist with keeping areas clean, moving heavy components, staging units for delivery, and performing basic tasks under supervision.

The role requires physical ability to lift 50–75 lbs, comfort around heavy equipment, and a reliable work ethic.

Qualifications

• Basic mechanical aptitude and hand-tool knowledge is a plus.

• Able to lift 50–75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Willing to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Good attitude, dependable, and able to follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Keep shop, yard, and work areas clean and organized.
• Assist with moving cranes, components, and attachments under supervision.
• Set up and tear down work areas for incoming jobs.
• Help technicians with basic tasks: removing/installing covers, panels, guards, and components.
• Hold, position, and secure parts or tools during repairs.
• Run for parts, tools, and supplies from the parts room, yard, or trucks.
• Help with basic lubricating and greasing, checking fluid levels, and simple inspections under direct supervision.
• Inspect basic shop tools for obvious damage and report issues.
• Assist with rigging and moving components under the direction of a qualified rigger/technician.
• Help set up blocking and cribbing for booms, counterweights, and other heavy components.
• Follow all rigging and signaling instructions from designated personnel.
• Follow all shop safety policies, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout instructions.

Job description

The Shop Helper supports technicians and the service team in the safe, efficient maintenance and repair of cranes and lifting equipment. Typical duties include:

Essential Functions

• Keep shop, yard, and work areas clean and organized (sweeping, trash removal, wiping down equipment, spill clean-up).
• Assist with moving cranes, components, and attachments under supervision (using forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, etc., as trained).
• Set up and tear down work areas for incoming jobs (stands, cribbing, blocking, drip pans, lighting, extension cords)
• Help technicians with basic tasks: removing/installing covers, panels, guards, and components as directed.
• Hold, position, and secure parts or tools during repairs.
• Run for parts, tools, and supplies from the parts room, yard, or trucks.
• Help with basic lubricating and greasing, checking fluid levels, and simple inspections under direct supervision
• Clean and put away shop tools, cords, and hoses at the end of jobs.
• Inspect basic shop tools for obvious damage and report issues.
• Help maintain shop equipment (cleaning pressure washers, welders’ leads, torches, etc.).
• Ensure ladders, stands, rigging, and cribbing are stored properly.
• Assist with rigging and moving components under the direction of a qualified rigger/technician.
• Help set up blocking and cribbing for booms, counterweights, and other heavy components.
• Follow all rigging and signaling instructions from designated personnel.
• Follow all shop safety policies, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout instructions.
• Maintain clear walkways, exits, and equipment access areas.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, leaks, spills, or damage to equipment.
• Participate in safety meetings and basic safety training as required.

Other duties and qualifications

• Assist with fueling, washing, and detailing cranes and service vehicles as directed.
• Help stage units and equipment for pickup, delivery, or field service.
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Shop Foreman, Service Manager, or lead technicians.
• Comfortable working around heavy equipment and large components.
• Able to lift[e.g., 50–75 lbs]and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Willing to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Good attitude, dependable, and able to follow directions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and hand-tool knowledge is a plus.

This role requires to drive company vehicle. Good driving record required.

Pay range

$20.00 to $21.00
