Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. in San Diego area seeks a Safety Rep II to lead health and safety programs across the yard. You will enforce policies, perform inspections, and coordinate with production, repair, and emergency teams to minimize incidents.

The role reports to Safety Supervisor and requires OSHA knowledge, training delivery, and ability to access military bases. It offers growth within a large shipbuilding environment and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ year Safety Rep experience at NASSCO.
• 2+ years safety enforcement experience in industrial/commercial settings.
• Continuing education toward OH&S certificate.
• Strong oral and written communication with management and staff.
• Ability to access military bases.
• Knowledge of OSHA regs, safety training, hazardous materials, and shipyard operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist Safety Manager and staff in routine safety work and inspections.
• Conduct daily area inspections ensuring compliance with regs and policies.
• Prepare written reports on inspections and investigations; create safety articles.
• Conduct safety training for new hires, recalls, and subcontractors.
• Stay current with OSHA standards and participate in safety meetings.
• Build relationships with managers and supervise safety activities.
• Support Safety Management System audits and policy enforcement.
• Other duties as assigned.
