Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Safety Representative to provide health and safety guidance and ensure OSHA and local compliance across the shipyard. Reports to the Supervisor of Safety and collaborates with Production, Repair, Maintenance, Medical, and Emergency Response teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year experience as Safety Representative at NASSCO or 2 years related safety enforcement.
• Ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written forms.
• Willingness to obtain access to military bases.
• Knowledge of OSHA regs and shipyard safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist Safety Manager and safety staff in routine tasks and investigations.
• Conduct daily inspections ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
• Prepare reports on inspections, investigations, and safety training materials.
• Conduct safety training including new hire orientation and subcontractor safety orientation.
• Review current OSHA literature to stay updated on standards.
• Attend safety meetings with management and safety committees.
• Interact regularly with department and ship managers to enforce safety policies.
• Participate in Safety Management System audits and related activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Provide Production Managers with tools to ensure a safe workplace.
• Assist in eliminating at-risk conditions and behaviors.
• Coach and train employees in safety requirements and practices.
