Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com in San Diego is seeking a painter to clean, prepare, and paint wood or metal surfaces on ships and shipyard buildings. You will mask off areas, mix materials according to Product Data Sheet, and inspect work for touch-ups.

Some tasks may be assigned beyond painting. Requires 1–3 years of brush or spray painting experience or SSPC C-12 certification, knowledge of surface prep, and ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience with brush and spray painting application.
• Knowledge of surface preparation procedures and paint mixing.
• Ability to read and understand Product Data Sheets.
• Ability to identify coating requirements and equipment.
• Operate high reach equipment; work at heights and in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Set up tools and equipment to conduct surface preparation.
• Prepare surface to be painted.
• Set up spray paint equipment to conduct coating application.
• Mix paint materials according to PDS and apply coating to surface.
• Hand paint and/or spray paint in designated areas; inspect work for touch-up.
• Perform housekeeping on assigned work areas during and after work.
• Operate high reach equipment to access hard-to-reach areas.
• Remove scrap and perform general cleaning.
