Job summary

Austal USA is seeking a skilled rigger to join our shipyard team. You will be responsible for rigging operations, crane setup, and ensuring safe handling of lifting gear on assigned vessels.

The role requires familiarity with shipyard terminology, USA hand signals, and the ability to read instructions and work with metric measurements. Training in overhead crane/rigging will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or 5 years maritime experience.
  • Minimum 1 year as a rigger in a shipyard or similar environment.
  • Willing to participate in continuous improvement via on‑the‑job training for less experienced coworkers.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment used in rigging operations, including lifting/moving gear.
  • Knowledge of shipyard terminology such as general ship structure and vessel layout.
  • Thorough knowledge of USA Standard hand signals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and measure using the metric system.
  • Completion of Austal USA Overhead Crane/Rigging training course with written and practical exams.
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Must ensure task, process, and safe use of rigging equipment is technically proficient.
  • Be accountable for completing daily work assignments with signatures for work completion and quality.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization on assigned job sites.
  • Select and utilize proper lifting gear.
