Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical and physical tasks in shipping goods and receiving shipments.
  • Handle unusual non-routine problems under supervisor guidance.
  • Follow TAB's SOPs and company policies in daily tasks.
  • Move materials from storage and prepare for shipment.
  • Load trucks for outbound shipments and unload inbound goods.
  • Verify orders against documents and maintain shipment records.
  • Verify incoming shipments against bills of lading and records; identify damage.

Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) a non-profit organization, was founded in 1934 by Dr. Henry L. Hilgartner and other civic-minded citizens of Austin to provide a setting where blind men and women could come to learn skills and create products that were sold door to door.

Today, Travis Association for the Blind stays true to the mission established in 1934 by providing opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind by creating, sustaining, and improving employment. Responsibilities
  • Performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods and receiving incoming shipments.
  • Handle unusual non-routine problems, receives specific guidance from supervisor or other officials.
  • Perform day-to-day, routine tasks, follows TAB's established guidelines.
  • Removing material from storage racks and preparing it for shipment.
  • Loading trucks to ship products to customers. (Direct)
  • Unloading received products from the trucks. (Direct)
  • Shipping duties typically involve the following: Verifying that orders are accurately filled by comparing items and quantities of goods gathered for shipment against documents; ensuring that shipments are properly packaged, identified with shipping information, and loaded into transporting vehicles; and preparing and keeping records of goods shipped, e.g., manifests, bills of lading.
  • Receiving duties typically involve the following: Verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records; checking for damaged goods; insuring that goods are appropriately identified for routing to departments within the establishment; preparing and keeping records of goods received.
  • Complies with and assists other employees understand and comply with TAB's Safety and Security policies and guidelines.
  • Behaves in accordance with the key behaviors aligned with TAB's Core Values of Leadership, Integrity, Growth & Innovation, Heart and Teamwork (LIGHT).
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:

  • Ability to be in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 4-8 hours
  • Have strong dexterity capabilities to grasp, assemble, and manipulate objects
  • Ability to stand for 7-8 hours per day
  • Ability to lift/move up to 10-35 lbs. at times
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 50% of time

Ability to work in extreme conditions with varying temperature, including cold and/or heat
