Job Description

Position: 1st Shift Shipping Operator

Title: Shipping Operator

Status: Hourly

Shift: 2nd, 5 am - 1 pm

Reports To: Shipping Manager

Location: Mentor

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; experience may be substituted.

Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a shipping & receiving environment. Forklift operation certification required (training provided). Strong clerical/computer skills necessary.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality and productivity standards are met cost-effectively
• Schedule and coordinate customer shipments and trucking
• Collaborate with management and quality teams for weekly shipment planning
• Coordinate with Production Control/Sales to meet weekly customer commitments
• Resolve shipment errors
• Follow and enforce safety rules

Specific Duties

• Identify and implement cost reduction activities for trucking
• Prepare shipment paperwork, including Customs documents
• Prepare labels, waybills, export declarations, certifications, government forms, BOL
• Affix shipping labels, weigh, verify, band, and load shipments
• Track and provide PODs to customers/vendors
• Communicate proactively about issues or shortages
• Monitor inventory of shipping supplies and forklift checks
• Determine shipment methods based on routes and rates
• Invoice shipments as needed
• Maintain dock supplies inventory
• Coordinate truck traffic and ensure documentation is complete
• Provide shift-to-shift communication
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere
• Meet efficiency standards as established by supervision
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
