Description

Precision Steel Services, Inc., a leading steel supplier in the Midwest since 1974, is seeking a dedicated Shipping Material Handler to join our team. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our employees and the quality of our US-manufactured steel products. As a Shipping Material Handler, you will play a crucial role in our shipping/receiving functions, ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of our products.

Responsibilities
  • Receive goods, verify the quality and count of all items unloaded from various modes of delivery, and report discrepancies as per company policy.
  • Record all items loaded for shipments.
  • Maintain shipping records for requested categories including goods returned, dunnage, and returnable pallets.
  • Update customer orders in the shipment database and provide appropriate billing documents to associated departments.
  • Prepare bills of lading and dray tickets for shipments.
  • Complete information on damage claims for in-transit damage.
  • Transport materials on shipping dock with a hand truck or other vehicle as needed.
  • Load trucks, trailers or other vehicles using a forklift.
Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received.
  • Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse procedures.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory software to maintain records, input data, and create reports.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous warehouse scanner use preferred, but not necessary.
  • Previous crane use preferred, but not necessary.
  • State drivers license for operation of forklift highly preferred (or previous forklift certification).
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work five (5) days/eight (8) hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
  • The ability to traverse warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting and reaching.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
