Job summary

SmurfitWestRock is seeking a Shipping Manager to oversee daily shipping activities for all outgoing products, lead shipping personnel, and ensure accurate recording of shipments. You will drive on-time delivery and cost efficiency while maintaining high safety standards.

The role requires 3–4 years in logistics/shipping and 2–3 years in production leadership, with strong Excel/Office skills and effective communication across teams.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of production leadership experience.
• 3–4 years of logistics/industrial/shipping experience.
• Aptitude to calculate estimated costs associated with shipping/delivery functions.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other managers, staff, and vendors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Schedule inbound and outbound loads; manage inbound and outbound shipments.
• Maximize trailer utilization and efficiently use trailer pool to reduce costs.
• Ensure subordinates work safely and contribute to a collaborative safety culture that drives results.
• Prepare daily and monthly management reports to communicate critical shipping information.
• Coordinate and monitor courier rates to select the lowest rate to minimize shipping cost and remain within budget.
• Utilize knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates to determine shipping priorities and methods for delivery to assure on-time delivery and exceptional customer service.
• Communicate with various levels of management and departments to ensure that goals are accomplished.

Opportunity summary

As Shipping Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing daily activities for shipping functions of all outgoing products to customers, managing all aspects of shipping and transferring product and materials, verifying and recording information on incoming and outgoing shipments, and providing leadership to shipping personnel.

What you need to succeed

• Focus on increasing customer satisfaction by ensuring obligations are met in a timely manner
• Aptitude to calculate estimated costs associated with the shipping/delivery functions
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other managers, staff, and vendors
• Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office- Excel, PowerPoint, Word
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills

The salary range for this position is $78,000.00 - $130,000.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The range listed is also the expected pay for roles in Illinois and Colorado. The benefits for this role include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your pay will be based on factors such as your skills, experience, and education.
