Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Plymouth, Indiana, is seeking a 2nd shift Shipping Lead to oversee the storage and shipment of finished goods and to lead the Warehouse and Shipping teams in on-time customer deliveries.

The role requires experience in shipping coordination or related warehousing, plus forklift operation and shift flexibility. You will manage inventory, ensure safety and SQF/AIB standards, and partner with the Shipping Manager to resolve issues.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in shipping coordination or related warehousing and distribution preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions; basic math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee storage and shipment of finished goods.

The Opportunity

Our Food Service Packaging plant facility in Plymouth, IN is seeking 2nd shift Shipping Lead, which is responsible for the storage and shipment of all finished goods in inventory and compliance with all safety, quality, quantity and housekeeping standards. Also, responsible for coordinating and leading activities within the Warehouse and Shipping areas to maintain on time and complete deliveries to customers.

  • Handle all incoming and outgoing finished goods product and manage the Shipping and Receiving Team to accomplish all tasks.
  • Executes the daily shipping schedule to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Load all LTL and TL shipments as required by shipment schedule.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of finished goods through utilization of computer inventory control system.
  • Unloads and inspect all incoming materials for condition and quantity per receiving paperwork.
  • Locates all received materials in the warehouse properly and practices FIFO methods for all outgoing material.
  • Safely drive and maneuver forklift and roll clamp truck.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain housekeeping excellence in accordance with Golden Broom Program.
  • Executes daily receiving schedule by safely unloading, inspecting and verifying all incoming products prior to storing them in the facility.
  • Participate and ensure department is compliant with SQF/AIB audit regulations.
  • Report and manage any staffing or logistics issues through the Shipping Manager to ensure items are resolved
  • Adheres to daily production schedule. Make recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery, and service goals. Utilize Computer systems, MS Office tools and AS400 based WMS software to accomplish duties.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Develop strong rapport with various freight lines.
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety programs, and good housekeeping.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
What you need to succeed
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written instructions. Ability to present information and respond to questions form groups of management.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be flexible on shift. (8-hours, 10-hours, M-F) on call, overtime, weekend availability
  • Prior experience in shipping coordination or related warehousing and distribution required.
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required.
  • Warehouse Experience:1 year (preferred)
  • Shipping & Receiving: 1 year (preferred)
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings, drug test, and criminal background check.
