Job summary

Hood Container is seeking a Shipping Lead at our Atlanta, GA plant to drive shipping efficiency, coordinate team efforts, and ensure on-time, accurate deliveries.

Responsibilities include supervising shipping staff, coordinating carrier loads, and maintaining logs and documentation while upholding safety policies. Requires leadership experience in shipping or manufacturing and knowledge of Amtech system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience leading teams in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing settings.
• Strong working knowledge of the Amtech system.
• Ability to bill outbound freight and manage documentation.
• Proficient in basic PC use and shipping equipment operation.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. and work in varied temperature conditions (40°F to 120°F).

• Assures policies and procedures are maintained and followed.
• Double-check shipments for accuracy.
• Process paperwork for outgoing shipments accurately.
• Assist in loading and unloading trucks.
• Assist in planning and billing shipping loads.
• Coordinate loads with carriers.
• Follow up with carrier to ensure deliveries.
• Maintain and record dispatch and driving logs.
• Interact with customer service and production for smooth shipments.
• Review production lineup and schedule customer appointments.
• Ensure counts are accurate and orders are shipped correctly.
• Audit shipment documents.
• Receiving supplies and review PO’s for shipping requirements.
• Check counts by measurement or hand counting.
• Notify Supervisor of shortages or damages.
• Maintain plant organization and inventory.
• Participate in monthly inventory procedures.
• Mentor and train shipping staff.
• Provide training for lift truck operators.
• Enforce safety policies in Shipping/Warehouse areas.
• Complete mandatory training and attend staff meetings.
• Supervise shipping in absence of Shipping Manager.

Position Overview:Meets the company’s requirement to be able to execute extreme accuracy as a role model and provide leadership to the staff. Instruct all employees on proper procedures and performance of handling of goods.

Position Responsibilities:

• Shipping Orders
• Assures policies and procedures are maintained and followed.
• Make sure that all shipments are double-checked for accuracy.
• Process paperwork for outgoing shipments, accurately and procedurally correct.
• Assist in loading and unloading trucks.
• Assist in planning and billing shipping loads.
• Coordinate loads with carriers.
• Follow up with carrier to ensure loads have been delivered.
• Maintain and record dispatch and driving logs.
• Interact with customer service and production for smooth, total quality order shipments from all shipping facilities, update with changes as necessary.
• Review Production line-up; and schedule appointments with customers.
• Responsible for the accuracy and confirmation that all counts are accurate.
• Assure that correct orders are picked up and shipped correctly.
• Audit all shipment documentation.
• Receiving Supplies
• Assist in unloading of raw materials and check all materials against the shipping receipt and the order.
• Receive and review purchase orders (PO’s) to verify shipping requirements, coordinate order fulfillment, and ensure timely processing.
• Check all counts by measurement or hand counting.
• Immediately notify Supervisor of any shortages or damages.
• Plant Organization and Condition
• Share in the responsibility for plant condition, storing of goods in the appropriate locations so items can easily be retrieved when needed. Checks for neatness and cleanliness.
• Maintain Warehouse Inventory and Shipping Supplies
• Participate in monthly physical inventory procedures.
• Assures accuracy of plant inventory.
• Supervisory Responsibilities
• Mentor, train, and set an example to general laborers.
• Train all new Shipping employees by ensuring all processes and procedures are followed.
• Provide training and instruction for all laborers who are using lift trucks and certified in their use.
• Assist in implementing all safety policies and procedures for the Shipping/Warehouse areas.
• Ensure all employees follow established safety practices and instructions.
• Complete mandatory training and attending staff meetings.
• Supervise shipping department in absence of Shipping Manager
• Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor or other leadership.

What It Takes:

High School Diploma or GED required

Experience leading teams in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing settings
