Job summary

Hood Container Corporation is seeking a hands‑on supervisor to direct the converting department team, ensuring on‑time delivery and product quality. You will manage safety, performance, and productivity while driving continuous improvement and employee development at our Sumter facility.

The role emphasizes coaching, process discipline, and collaboration with other departments to support customers and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Safety must be the top priority.
  • Excellent communication and conflict‑management skills.
  • Experience supervising teams in manufacturing or corrugated environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and prioritize the work of machine operators, assistants, and helpers to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Promote a safe, proactive, and team‑oriented work environment and address safety concerns.
  • Lead daily activities in safety, quality, and maintenance within the converting department.
  • Mentor and develop supervisors; provide guidance and leadership support.
  • Maintain paperwork on machine/operator efficiencies, end of shift reports, and disciplinary actions.

Job description

Position Overview

This position is responsible for directing and prioritizing the work of a team of machine operators, assistants, and helpers within the converting department. The role ensures production schedules and customer requirements are met while maintaining safe, efficient, and profitable operations. The position provides hands‑on leadership, monitors production performance and quality, supports employee development, and promotes a safe, proactive, and team‑oriented work environment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide quality products via on time delivery to bring value to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure the wellbeing of self and all employees in the manufacturing facility and proactively address all safety concerns.
  • Actively participate in the plant safety system
  • Ensure Environmental procedures / practices are being followed.
  • Coordinate and lead daily activities of the converting department in the areas of safety, quality and maintenance. This requires both a focus on leadership as well as the full utilization of information, procedures and methods to positively impact the materials, machines, the internal and external customers of the facility.
  • Supervise employees in the everyday coordination, execution and planning of the operational efforts. Enhance the knowledge and continuing education of the applicable personnel.
  • Mentors, coaches, and develops a team of supervisor by providing guidance, feedback and leadership support.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the plant management, supervisors, office and operational employees.
  • Actively pursue measures to reduce downtime on plant equipment, identify opportunities and take measures to reduce waste.
  • Work with maintenance staff to provide understanding of machine needs in the areas of maintenance and lubrication.
  • Use KPI's to measure results and communicate performance
  • Responsible for overseeing the development of employees within department to increase competency, understanding and accountability for work performance.
  • Lead training initiatives for designated employees.
  • Quality liaison for crew.
  • Schedule and coordinate vacations and proper staffing levels of crew.
  • Maintain well‑documented paperwork for machine and operator efficiencies, end of shift reports, and disciplinary actions.
Education & Experience
  • 3-5 years in supervisor role
  • corrugated industry a +
  • High school diploma required; 2- or 4-year degree preferred.
  • Green belt / Six sigma certifications preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Amtech and/or CTI preferred.
Skills
  • Must value safety as top priority.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to handle difficult situations.
