Job summary

Hood Container Corporation is seeking a qualified Forklift Operator to support day-to-day shipping and receiving activities, assist truck drivers, and maintain orderly WIP and stock in the yard.

You will operate and care for the forklift safely, inspect equipment, document paperwork, and help meet daily production schedules. A high school diploma and 2+ years forklift experience in production or distribution are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years’ experience as forklift operator in production or distribution environment.
  • Able to read, write, communicate efficiently, and follow instructions on factory masters.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
  • Physical demands include standing, lifting up to 50–100 pounds, and occasional heavy lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and care for forklift; ensure safe operation.
  • Maintain organized staging area and undamaged WIP.
  • Deliver stock to machines safely and on time.
  • Locate and move stock; complete accompanying paperwork accurately.
  • Back up Shipping Lead Person as needed; adhere to daily production schedule.

Qualified Forklift Operator to assist coordinating the day-to-day activities in the shipping and receiving offices, including providing customer service to the truck drivers. Strong organizational, teamwork, and self-starter skills will lead you to success in this role.

How You Will Contribute

Responsible for all activities associated with safely operating and caring for the Forklift. Ensuring work in progress (WIP) is undamaged, and the staging area is maintained organized. As well as consistently bringing correct size, board grade stacks to machine centers to be ran.

  • Prior work experience as a forklift operator
  • Operation and care of forklift in a safe manner.
  • Complete and document a forklift inspection form before start of shift and when operating a new forklift and turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
  • Locate stock before the start of the run.
  • Deliver appropriate stock to appropriate machines safely and on time.
  • Remove finished goods from machines.
  • Maintain neat, orderly, and safe stacks of stock in storage areas.
  • Complete necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maintain accurate location of stock in storage area by paperwork and computer.
  • Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
  • Adhere to daily production schedule.
  • Assist other forklift operators as necessary and is backup to Shipping Lead Person.
  • Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
What It Takes

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to sit for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to hot and/or humid as well as cold conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, louder than normal environments, and high paced atmosphere.
