Job Title: Shipping Clerk (Temporary)

Job Description

The Shipping Clerk (Temp) supports day-to-day packing and shipping operations in a high-volume distribution environment. This role ensures orders are packed accurately, labeled correctly, and shipped on time in accordance with written policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The position also contributes to inventory control, workplace organization, and continuous improvement initiatives while providing dependable, detail-oriented support to both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Perform packing duties in accordance with written policies and procedures.
• Verify that materials picked for sales orders match the items listed on the packing slip.
• Review and follow all instructions noted in packing instructions for each order.
• Package materials securely in designated cartons according to established departmental procedures.
• Package all hazardous materials in compliance with written policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Perform shipping duties in accordance with written policies and procedures.
• Process shipments using the companys ERP and shipping systems.
• Verify the accuracy of shipping labels and apply them correctly to cartons.
• Apply all required regulatory package labels to outbound shipments.
• Stage orders for carrier collection based on department procedures.
• Perform all workstation end-of-day processes to ensure accurate and complete shipping records.
• Create itemized packing slips and dangerous goods documentation for applicable shipments.
• Cross-train to meet Finished Goods Clerk II requirements to support broader operations as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve shipment process errors in a timely manner.
• Respond to customer support requests promptly and professionally, ensuring issues are resolved effectively.
• Ensure quality and accuracy in all packing, shipping, and documentation tasks.
• Report any discrepancies, issues, or irregularities to the appropriate supervisor.
• Perform cycle counts without supervision to support inventory accuracy.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area at all times.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of shipping and receiving experience in a high-volume environment.
• Previous experience using FedEx, UPS, or DHL shipping systems.
• Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook and Excel.
• Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Teams, and training software.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
• Enhanced math and analytical skills, including use of Excel for data and analysis.
• Good time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced setting.
• Shipping experience, including working with various carriers and systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with shipping activities including counts, shipping processes, and use of carrier systems such as UPS and FedEx.
• Inventory and forklift experience is beneficial for broader warehouse support.
• Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot shipment process errors.
• Comfort working with hazardous materials and dangerous goods documentation.
• Experience participating in Lean initiatives or continuous improvement activities.
• Ability to lead or participate in Gemba walks and process improvement discussions.
• Strong customer service mindset when responding to internal and external support requests.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carlsbad, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
