Job summary

Brook + Whittle in New Albany, Indiana is seeking a Shipping Clerk to join our operations team. This full‑time role handles sorting, packing, labeling, and processing shipments, including international and special‑requirement orders, and coordinating with customers or logistics partners.

Shipping Clerk

Full‑time shifts available: Monday‑Friday 4 p‑12 a, Monday‑Thursday 6 a‑4, Monday‑Friday 9 a‑5 p.

Sort and package orders and process shipments accurately. Coordinate truck shipments with customers or logistics companies. Process international and special‑requirement shipments using the internet.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Utilize quality‑assurance principles to ensure accuracy of each order.
• Package and label orders per customer specifications.
• Arrange and process “exception” shipments that cannot be processed through the Shiprite system using carrier websites.
• Process shipments on the Shiprite system as needed.
• Lifts up to 45‑pound boxes of labels repeatedly throughout the day; moves 75‑150‑pound carts on wheels or pallets (using a pallet jack).
• Return incomplete orders to press when insufficient labels are available.
• Modify orders requiring changes or corrections in the OM retrieve system.
• Contact customers directly for shipping requirements or freight/shipping arrangements.
• Scan barcodes of incoming orders.
• Move packed boxes onto conveyors or directly onto pallets; use manual pallet jacks to move weight up to 2,000 pounds.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (may include specialized classes).
• 0‑3 years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to perform single‑function tasks of moderate size and scope.
• Read and comprehend simple instructions; read, interpret and create simple correspondence and memos.
• Present information one‑on‑one and in small groups.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

• Contact with shipping department team, other departments, customers, and management staff.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

• Frequent exposure to manufacturing environment with dust, dirt, noise, chemicals, etc. (21%–50% of work time).
• Constant walking, standing, grasping, reaching, pushing/pulling, bending, stooping, twisting, manual dexterity for prolonged periods.
• Regularly required to hear, speak, and use color vision.
• Regularly required to carry and lift up to 50 lb.
