Job summary

Colonial Group is seeking a Shipping Clerk I to support the shipping team by preparing packages, staging pallets, and meeting daily shipping schedules and delivery specs. You will operate a Pallet Jack, box and label shipments, generate air pillows, and pick orders with an RF scanner.

You must follow safety guidelines and Six Sigma standards while delivering accurate, timely results in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a distribution or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Must read, write, speak and understand basic English.
• Must be able to use a Pallet Jack and Staple Gun.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Sort and stage pallets in the shipping dock using a Pallet Jack or by hand.
• Prepare packages for shipping by taping or stapling boxes and affixing labels.
• Generate air pillows at the shipping line by entering quantity and size needed in the air pillow machine and placing them in boxes.
• Investigate packages not meeting weight requirements and escalate to the Shipping Supervisor.
• Assemble specialized boxes for custom orders using a Staple Gun.
• Empty cardboard and trash bins into the trash compactor.
• May pick customer orders using RF Scanner and place them in boxes on a conveyor.
• Observe safety guidelines and report safety concerns.
• Follow Six Sigma lean manufacturing standards to keep work area clean and safe from hazards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Shipping Clerk I works under close supervision of the Shipping Supervisor to prepare packages for shipment by packaging boxes and staging pallets according to the daily shipping schedule and delivery specifications.

• Sort and stage pallets in the shipping dock by operating a Pallet Jack or by hand based on daily shipping schedule, truck weight limits and requirements.
• Prepare packages for shipping by taping or stapling boxes shut and affixing completed address labels.
• Generate air pillows at the shipping line by entering quantity and size needed in the air pillow machine and placing them in boxes.
• Investigate packages that are flagged as not meeting the specified weight requirements on the shipping conveyor line and make necessary adjustments or esc into complex issues to the Shipping Supervisor.
• Assemble specialized boxes for custom orders using a Staple Gun.
• Empty cardboard and trash bins into the trash compactor.
• May pick customer orders by operating RF Scanner to scan order tickets, pick product(s) in assigned zone and placing them in boxes on a conveyor system.
• Observe all safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management.
• Follow Six Sigma lean manufacturing standards to keep work area clean and safe from hazards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
