Job summary

• Proficiency in identifying inventory parts by part number.

Responsibilities

• Perform shipping/freight quotes as needed per customer request.
• Ensure all shipping documents are created and maintained accurately.
• Ship packages on time according to approved work instructions.
• Inspect orders to ensure product-built matches customer requirements.
• Inform purchasing and inventory staff of shortages.
• Calculate shipping charges for customer invoicing.
• Report defective material or questionable condition to the supervisor.
• Perform shipping functions including forklift operation as needed.
• Complete documents for International shipments.
• Participate in 2 Second Lean to support cost savings.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in Shipping and Dock areas.
• Communicate operation status to management including issues.
• Performs other duties as required.

Job description

Position: Shipping Associate Reports To: Shipping Supervisor

Department: Operations

Basic Function: The Shipper will ensure all outgoing shipments, regardless of ground or freight, are packaged or palletized properly; enter package/pallet weights and dimensions into Starship shipping software; schedule shipment pick-ups and perform freight quotes as needed. Ensures that THE CUSTOMER IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY and each employee must support that priority. Utilizes 2 second lean tools to drive continuous improvement. Keeps area clean and organized daily.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Perform shipping/freight quotes as needed per customer request.
• Ensure all shipping documents are created and maintained accurately.
• Ship packages on time according to approved work instructions
• Inspect orders to ensure product-built matches customer requirements -. Ensure quality of final product.
• Inform purchasing and inventory staff members of any material or packing supply shortages.
• Calculate shipping charges for customer invoicing.
• Report defective material or questionable condition to the department supervisor
• Perform shipping functions as needed, including driving a forklift.
• Complete all required documents for International shipments.
• Participate in the 2 Second Lean program to support continuous improvement and cost savings.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness in the Shipping and Dock areas.
• Maintain the work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition
• Ensure and promote compliance to company safety guidelines as well as policies and procedures.
• Communicate status of operation in a timely manner to management including any safety and/or process problems
• Performs other duties as required

Qualifications and Required Skills:

• Education:
  • Required a high school diploma or equivalent experience
• Experience:
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in production/ shipping environment
  • Experience working in ERP and Shipping software preferred
• Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to work independently.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The position requires accuracy, common sense, and flexibility.
  • Ability to read and understand packaging lists (assembly instructions) and sales orders.
  • Proficiency in locating and identifying inventory parts by part number to complete the assembly process
  • Knowledge of computer shipping software programs, Experience working with freight and UPS/Fed ex software systems.

  • Body Positions: Requires mostly standing, but there will be the need for walking activities throughout the day to retrieve parts and lift boxes

  • Carry boxes or packages up 70lbs with the possible more from time to time
