Job summary

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets work specifications and blueprints.
• Expert knowledge of tools, equipment and machining processes of shipfitting trade.
• Ability to work effectively with others and be reliable.
• Must gain access to all bases and shipyards (badges).
• Knowledge of NavSeaSTD items and MIL-STD-1689, MIL STD 22D, ABS rules.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise Shipfitting teams across multiple jobsites, assign daily tasks.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specs, manuals, and design sketches for shipfitting.
• Identify manning and material requirements and coordinate with other trades.
• Submit and respond to reports related to job performance.
• Coordinate with supervisors, project teams, and customers for safe, efficient work.
• Coordinate with other departments for scheduling and job completion.
• Mentor junior personnel and provide guidance.
• Oversee timecard process and ensure correct billing.
• Ensure adherence to OSHA and safety guidelines.
• Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts within ship hull for riveting/welding.
• Inspect completed work for quality and compliance.
• Troubleshoot shipfitting and fabrication processes and equipment; notify supervisor of issues.
• Replace for Assistant Superintendent as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
