Job summary

Mills Marine in the Norfolk, Virginia area is seeking a skilled Ship Fitter to join our structural repair and fabrication team. You will work on ships, in drydocks and fabrication shops, reading blueprints and using trade tools to remove, fabricate, and install structural marine components.

The ideal candidate has hands-on ship fitter experience, can read blueprints and NAVSEA weld symbols, and is comfortable working independently or in a team while adhering to safety policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write effectively.
• Proven hands-on ship fitter experience in marine/shipyard repair.
• Ability to obtain shipyard access credentials.
• Ability to read, interpret NAVSEA weld symbols and blueprints.
• OSHA Maritime/CPR First Aid preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair structural marine components.
• Read shipbuilding blueprints, structural drawings, and welding symbols.
• Lay out reference points, centerlines, and assembly locations using tools.
• Measure, cut, bevel, grind, shape plates, beams, and foundations.
• Fit hull sections, bulkheads, decks, frames, and related components.
• Coordinate with welders, riggers, electricians, and inspectors.
• Ensure compliance with NAVSEA standards and safety policies.
• Complete required documentation and quality inspections.
