Job summary

Marine Hydraulics International, Inc. in Norfolk, VA is seeking an experienced Shipfitter for full-time employment. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, aligning parts, drilling reference holes, and performing fabrications with welding and riveting as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a shipfitter.
• Knowledge of tools, equipment and machining processes of ship fitting trade.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Must be a steady, reliable worker.

Responsibilities

• Analyze jobs from start to finish ensuring proper and safe work methods.
• Read and interpret work specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, and design sketches to determine ship fitting process.
• Identify and mark reference lines and location of holes to be drilled for welding or riveting.
• Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges and mauls.
• Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members.
• Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.
• Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
• Roll, bend, flange, cut and shape plates, beams and other heavy metal parts using shop machinery.
