Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking skilled X11 Fitters to read blueprints and fabricate steel structures for naval ships. You will measure, cut, grind, fit and weld components from small subassemblies to large hull sections.

Fitters work across shipyards, shops and on vessels, climbing and maneuvering in confined spaces and varying weather. Competitive pay, benefits and weekly paychecks are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret plans for steel fabrication.
• Experience reading measurements and using hand tools.
• Willingness to work in various shipyard locations and conditions.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints or plans to place, maneuver, or fabricate steel structures.
• Fit and weld components to form ship hulls and interior structures.
• Work at heights and in confined spaces as part of shipbuilding.
• Support new construction, ship repair, and overhauls.
