Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Shift Utility to perform operating, inspection, adjustment, and maintenance duties for continuous plant operations on a 10-hour rotating shift (days/swings/nights). The role supports production and shipping with a focus on equipment upkeep and safety compliance at the Oro Grande, CA facility.

Responsibilities

• Inspects plant equipment and performs routine lubrication on equipment such as compressors, seals, mill journals, and drive chains.
• Change separator valve settings and blades; make silo changes.
• Assist in moving stackers and reclaimers; perform or assist in repair work and equipment adjustments.
• Operate front end loader, bobcat, dump truck, dozer and other plant equipment to move materials as needed.
• Perform clean-up duties and help maintain smooth operations in production and shipping areas.

The Shift Utility performs operating, inspection, adjustment, and maintenance duties to maintain continuity of plant operations. This is a 10-hour rotating shift position (days/swings/nights).

Compensation

$36.82/hour - $38.82/hour

Responsibilities

• Inspects plant equipment as required and performs some routine lubrication on such equipment as compressors, seals, mill journals, drive chains, etc.
• Change separator valve settings and blades, make silo changes
• Assists in moving stackers and reclaimers
• Performs or assists in repair work and makes equipment adjustments
• Operates front end loader, bobcat, dump truck, dozer, and other plant equipment to move materials as necessary
• Performs clean-up duties such as cleaning out feed chutes, transfer points, belts, and pulleys, etc.
• Provides any other assistance required to maintain smooth operations in production and shipping departments
• Furnishes necessary hand tools to perform job duties
• Perform clean up duties in all areas of the facility
• Job duties include handling and using high-pressure gas devices with Federal ATF, state, and county requirements which must be completed
• Assists in other plant operations as necessary

Education

Requirements/Qualifications

• Familiarity with computers
• Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language
• Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility including systems to remove tower plugs
• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours)
• Walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces
• Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground)
• Climb stairs and ladders as high as 380 feet in elevation
• Physical ability to climb on equipment
• Must be able to lift and carry 70lbs. up stairs
• Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
• Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings
• Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process
• Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require the use of hearing protection
• Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, and various lab chemicals. See MSDS for more details.
• Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights, and confined spaces

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
