Job summary

CalPortland in Oro Grande, CA is seeking an Electronics Technician for day shift duties. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and calibrating CEMS and related instrumentation, with coordination with Production for critical needs and upgrades. OT may be scheduled as required.

Typical responsibilities include diagnostics, programming tasks, and ensuring safe, compliant operations across plant systems. Must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to work rotating shifts in a cement

The Electronics Technician must be able to perform all assigned plant electrical functions safely and in compliance with environmental regulations. This is typically a day shift schedule (Mon-Fri), with OT scheduled as needed and schedule changes assigned, as needed.

Compensation

$42.80/hour - $44.80/hour

Responsibilities

• Maintains, inspects, and repairs components of the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) with diligence, precision, and quality work
• Ability to complete Preventive Maintenance operations and repairs on all compliance analyzers associated with CEMS, and process gas analyzers associated with the pyro-process
• Coordinate daily with the Production department to identify needs for critical instrumentation lacking in the control room and develop a plan for repairs independently with minimal support
• Execute repairs on critical instrumentation in the plant safely, and with minimal supervision
• Capable of coordinating long-term plans during equipment outages to install instrumentation or conduct any electronic/electrical upgrades beneficial for the plant systems
• Calibrates, lays out, designs, adjusts, reconfigures, constructs, assembles, installs, downloads, uploads, archives, trends, inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, troubleshoots and tests any types of electrical/electronic systems and equipment such as motors, generators, commutators, speed reducers, switchboards, circuit boards, lighting circuits, conduits, SCR, VFD, Liquid Rheostat or any other adjustable speed drive unit, solid state board or any electrical/electronic control device, computers, laptops, processors, PLC, CRT, etc., using blueprints, wiring diagrams, sketches, schematics, software, hardware, manufactures and verbal instructions, to include all necessary documentation
• Perform automation and programming functions, as assigned
• Check and verify completed work to ensure proper operation
• Use necessary instruments and tools such as voltmeters, ammeters, Multimeters, bridges, computers, laptops, and any other industrial electrical/electronic analyzing equipment and tools needed in carrying out responsibilities within the job scope
• Sets up and uses rigging to handle tools and equipment; uses mobile equipment such as man lifts and cranes at the direction of the supervisor
• Climbs poles or uses mobile equipment to run, repair, modify, remove, clean, etc., power lines and all associated equipment. Starts and stops all types of plant equipment
• Designs, prepares, modifies, and maintains logs, reports, charts, schematics, prints, and any other paperwork incidental to duties
• Maintains equipment, work areas, measuring instruments, tools, and accessories in a safe, clean, neat, and orderly condition
• Performs minor mechanical work such as removing covers, lids, or obstructions before electrical repair work, to include reinstall after completion
• Performs cutting and welding, such as tacking brackets or small electrical clamps or holders as required
• Paint any electrical/electronic panel, switchgear, motor windings, insulation equipment, control station, etc.
• Change motors and perform alignments
• Maintain process analyzers
• Perform clean up duties in all areas of the facility
• Other duties as assigned

Education

High school diploma or GED required

Requirements/Qualifications

• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours)
• Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground)
• Physical ability to climb on equipment
• Must be able to use proper Personal ProtectiveEquipment as required
• Must be able to lift and carry items up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights, and confined spaces
• Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry, and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process
• Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require use of hearing protection
• Must be able to work rotating shifts
• Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, and various chemicals; see MSDS for more details

Preferred:
Experience working in a cement manufacturing facility

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
