Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent to lead maintenance across the cement plant and quarry, with about 20% fieldwork and 80% office work under the Plant Superintendent. You will direct safety-minded maintenance, organize preventative work, and supervise multiple supervisors to ensure reliability and compliance.

Ideal candidates have strong leadership, team coordination, and planning skills, plus proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

• Physical requirements including confined spaces and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to operate forklifts and other mobile equipment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Solid mechanical and control system skills with ability to train others.
• Able to work effectively both independently and in a team.
• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage maintenance activities in the Plant and Quarry, including mobile equipment.
• Organize and oversee preventative maintenance and emergency repairs.
• Supervise planners, maintenance engineers, electrical, mechanical, and automation teams.
• Maintain budgets set by the Plant Superintendent.
• Assist in kiln relining planning and execution.
• Develop and implement training programs for plant personnel.
• Collaborate with Engineering on CAPEX projects and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations.
• Improve machinery reliability and manage outages and scheduling.
• Plan, coordinate, and schedule required work.

The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance of the cement plant and Quarry in accordance with established procedures and schedules. This position requires approximately 20% hands-on fieldwork and 80% office work and works at the close direction of the Plant Superintendent.

Compensation

$130k-$160k DOE

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the direction and management of all maintenance activities in the Plant and Quarry including mobile equipment
• Organizes and oversees all preventative maintenance work as well as emergency repairs to equipment
• Supervises the planner, maintenance engineer, electrical, mechanical, and automation supervisors.
• Responsible for staying within budgets set by the Plant Superintendent
• Assists Plant superintendent in Kiln reline organization, planning, and execution
• Develop and implement successful training programs for plant personnel
• Works with the Engineering department on specifications and development of CAPEX projects
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local labor, safety, and environmental regulations
• Responsible for machinery reliability improvement
• Responsible for maintenance planning, daily and yearly outages, and predictive maintenance
• Plans, coordinates, and schedules work required

Requirements/Qualifications

• Physical requirements: working in confined spaces, welding, cutting, ability to lift over 50 lbs., climbup to elevations of 100 ft.
• Ability to operate mobile equipment (forklift, manlift, front-end loader, boom truck, crane)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Solid mechanical/control system skills and the ability to train others
• Able to work effectively both individually and as part of a team
• Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
