Job summary

CalPortland is hiring for a Shift Utility on a 10-hour rotating shift (days/swings/nights) at our Oro Grande, CA plant. The role includes inspecting, lubricating, and maintaining plant equipment to ensure continuous operations.

The position requires basic computer familiarity, ability to read and communicate in English, and physical stamina to perform duties in varying conditions. Benefits include health, disability, life insurance, and retirement options for full-time staff.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with computers.
• Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
• Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility including systems to remove tower plugs.
• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours).
• Walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces.
• Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground).
• Climb stairs and ladders as high as 380 feet in elevation.
• Physical ability to climb on equipment.
• Must be able to lift and carry 70lbs. up stairs.
• Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects plant equipment and performs routine lubrication on equipment such as compressors, seals, mill journals, drive chains.
• Change separator valve settings and blades, make silo changes.
• Assists in moving stackers and reclaimers.
• Performs or assists in repair work and makes equipment adjustments.
• Operates front end loader, bobcat, dump truck, dozer, and other plant equipment to move materials.
• Performs clean-up duties such as cleaning out feed chutes, transfer points, belts, and pulleys.
• Provides other assistance to maintain smooth operations in production and shipping.
• Furnishes necessary hand tools to perform duties.
• Perform clean up duties in all areas of the facility.
• Handle high-pressure gas devices with required safety compliance.
• Assists in other plant operations as necessary.

The Shift Utility performs operating, inspection, adjustment, and maintenance duties to maintain continuity of plant operations. This is a 10-hour rotating shift position (days/swings/nights).

Compensation

$36.82/hour - $38.82/hour

• Job duties include handling and using high-pressure gas devices with Federal ATF, state, and county requirements which must be completed
• Assists in other plant operations as necessary

• Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process
• Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require the use of hearing protection
• Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, and various lab chemicals. See MSDS for more details.
• Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights, and confined spaces

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
