Job summary

Corning is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Maintenance Technician in Alabama to diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and control issues in production equipment. You will work with cross-functional teams to support safe, reliable performance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, coordinating with maintenance and engineering, and ensuring adherence to safety and SOPs. 12-hour shifts are available; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or controls technology preferred; or high school diploma with 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and pneumatic controls, including the use of appropriate test equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment ranging from simple to complex.
  • Working knowledge of sensors, thermocouples, switches, motors, and actuators.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and machine specifications.
  • Strong decision-making and prioritization skills.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, SharePoint).

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Position Summary

Provide hands‑on technical support to diagnose and resolve equipment and process issues within manufacturing operations. This role partners with cross‑functional teams to support safe, reliable performance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for comprehensive electrical, controls, mechanical, and equipment troubleshooting for production equipment.
  • Manage and troubleshoot multiple issues concurrently, applying sound technical principles to drive effective resolution.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and engineering to resolve issues that extend beyond the first level troubleshooting steps
  • Monitor area performance, identify equipment and process issues, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities and equipment upkeep initiatives.
  • Communicate updates and provide guidance to ensure production teams remain current on processes, equipment, and standard operating procedures.
  • Promote a safe work environment and support adherence to housekeeping standards and safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree (two-year) in electrical, mechanical, or controls technology preferred; or high school diploma with 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and pneumatic controls, including the use of appropriate test equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment ranging from simple to complex.
  • Working knowledge of sensors, thermocouples (TCs), switches, motors, and actuators.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and machine specifications.
  • Strong decision-making and prioritization skills.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft applications (e.g., Excel, Word, SharePoint).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs and/or equipment automation.
  • Data analysis skills (e.g., PI): ability to use a computer to plot and analyze data.
Work Schedule
  • 12‑hour rotating shifts, including weekend and holiday coverage.

The range for this position is $59,731.00 - $82,131.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
