Job summary

Corning Incorporated seeks a MET Technician to provide quick response manufacturing support and to optimize safety, product selects and equipment utilization in Optical Fiber production. The role identifies process improvements and uses experience to resolve issues and recommend changes.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting electrical/mechanical equipment, supporting maintenance, and delivering training on new or modified production equipment to teams across the plant.

Qualifications

  • Two year electrical/mechanical/or controls technical degree preferred (Associates).
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read/understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Computer literate; understands Windows to locate files, edit, save, transfer, etc.
  • Strong communication and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Help department achieve Safety and Lean goals.
  • Provide 2nd/3rd level troubleshooting of production equipment issues.
  • Monitor area performance and drive issue resolution.
  • Coordinate startup, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes with multiple groups.
  • Assist engineers with design, troubleshooting and documentation of new equipment.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of the Position: Provide quick response manufacturing support triggered by Operations feedback as well as product quality data. Overall mission of a MET technician is to optimize the Safety, Product Selects and Equipment Utilization associated with the manufacturing of Optical Fiber. Identifies and supports process improvements. Uses judgment, experience and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.

Day To Day Responsibilities

  • Help department achieve Safety and Lean goals.
  • 2nd point of contact to provide 2nd and 3rd level electrical/controls/mechanical/equipment troubleshooting of production equipment issues.
  • Responsible for monitoring area performance, identifying equipment/process issues, and following issues to closure.
  • Manage multiple troubleshooting issues utilizing sound technical principles to drive resolution. Prioritizing issues against plant and department priorities.
  • Receive training from engineering in technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) areas, on new processes/equipment and/or on procedural changes.
  • Receive hazardous material training for purpose of Spill Team support as well as supporting other Production activities involving controlled chemicals.
  • Work with a variety of groups including operators, other support technicians, engineers, and trades to coordinate and direct equipment startup, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes.
  • Oversee and direct Trades on repairs as necessary.
  • Support Preventive Maintenance efforts on equipment.
  • As needed, develop, document, and deliver training packages for new or modified equipment to production and support groups in the plant.
  • Assisting engineers in the design, troubleshooting, documentation, and implementation of new or modified production equipment.
  • Directing maintenance personnel in the construction, testing, installation, and debugging of equipment.

Education & Experience

  • Two year electrical/mechanical/or controls technical degree preferred (Associates)
  • Will consider experienced candidates with demonstrated skills and work experience
  • High school diploma and 10+ years manufacturing experience.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and repair of simple to complex mechanical devices
  • Ability to read/understand electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Computer literate and understands Microsoft windows to locate files, edit, save, transfer, etc.

Travel Requirements: (National/International; 0-100%) <5%

Hours of work: Mon – Fri 8 hrs/day (Periodic OT/Weekend work will be required) On-call support every 6-8 weeks.

The range for this position is $58,934.00 - $81,034.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
