Job summary

Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is seeking a dependable Shift Supervisor to lead the facility during assigned shifts. This role emphasizes safety, client accountability, documentation, and daily operations in the Behavioral Health & Reentry Services programs.

You will supervise staff, manage emergencies, conduct orientations, and coordinate meals while ensuring adherence to VOADV policies and funding requirements across shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 6 months of supervisory experience.
  • 2 years of human services experience.
  • Experience working with diverse client populations.
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license and meeting VOADV driver standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to lead staff and maintain professionalism in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license matching state of residence and meet agency driver standards.
  • Monitor and document client compliance with pass regulations and procedures.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol screens as directed and report results.
  • Document resident fees and/or deposits received.
  • Notify Food Service of meal counts and receive food at the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead facility operations during the assigned shift.
  • Supervise assigned staff, including training and performance appraisals.
  • Ensure completion of Program Assistant, Operations Specialist, and Shift Leader responsibilities during the shift.
  • Determine when emergencies require escalation to the Assistant Director and/or Program Director.
  • Review shift documentation related to client and building safety.
  • Monitor client sign-in/sign-out procedures and initiate emergency follow-up for unauthorized absences or late returns.
  • Conduct orientation for new clients, including rules, general intake, fire safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Coordinate meal distribution and address meal-related issues with appropriate staff.
  • Monitor client medications and ensure accurate Medication Log documentation.
  • Schedule and document medical appointments and notify clients of appointment details.
  • Ensure client chores are completed and documented and that cleaning supplies are available.
  • Conduct facility inspections, contraband searches, and random client/property searches as directed and in accordance with policy.
  • Ensure visitors properly sign in and out and document the purpose of each visit.
  • Log phone calls and respond to inquiries appropriately.
  • Conduct monthly fire drills and regular fire/safety checks.
  • Monitor safety and emergency equipment and submit maintenance work orders when needed.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs regarding clients, facility conditions, and significant events.
  • Transport and/or escort clients as directed. Document and review disciplinary or special incidents before submission to leadership and funding sources.
  • Support case management functions.
  • Maintain client and staff confidentiality.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is seeking a dependable, experienced Shift Supervisor to take a leadership role within our Behavioral Health & Reentry Services programs. Reporting to the Assistant Director and/or Program Director, this position serves as the primary contact for the facility during the assigned shift and helps ensure staff responsibilities, client accountability, safety, documentation, and daily operations are completed effectively.
