Qualifications

  • Five years manufacturing management experience required; almond manufacturing preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree may substitute with two years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish, recommended; English required.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate across functions.
  • Must be available to work all shifts and weekends as required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management skills for on-time project delivery.
  • Knowledge of GMPs and food safety/HACCP principles.
  • Desire for continuous process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Ability to manage employees and resolve personnel issues professionally.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Knowledge of almond processing (sorting, sizing, packaging).

  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Inspect products to verify conformance to specifications and direct setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.
  • Review time and production records.
  • Perform activities of workers supervised.
  • Prepare operational schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and comply with all company, federal and state rules and regulations (Right to Know, emergency evacuation, electrical safety, confined space, etc.).
  • Reconcile timecards and work with schedules for appropriate staffing.
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot production and quality issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Plant Shift Supervisor will directly supervise employees on the designated shift in the plant. Other responsibilities will include planning, assigning, and directing workflow. This position will appraise performance, reward and discipline employees and address complaints and resolving problems. The Plant Shift Supervisor will provide job orientation of newly hired or newly assigned employees, ensuring knowledge of plant and departmental policies and procedures, learning and enhancement of job skills, safety and quality awareness, etc. This position will also enforce all company rules, policies and procedures. In addition, this position will assist in the investigation of all accidents such as work-related injuries and property damages. The Plant Shift Supervisor will be collaborate on projects and activities supporting the Hughson Nut Inc. (HNI) facility goals, operations, continuous improvement initiatives, and business unit/manufacturing strategies and objectives.

  • Computer skills are required. Previous experience with Microsoft office is required.

  • A strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety/HACCP principles is required.
  • Must demonstrate a desire for continuous improvement of the process and cost reduction.
  • Ability to manage employees and resolve personnel issues professionally is required.
  • Basic trouble shooting skills to resolve mechanical and electrical issues is required.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn almond processing, including sorting, sizing, and packaging of almonds is required.

The pay for this role in the state of California ranges from $65,000 - $86,000 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within this range may be determined based on a candidate’s experience, qualifications and/or other determining factors.
