Responsibilities/Qualifications:
As a Shift Manager, you are always striving to enhance the lives of pets and their people when customers are shopping with us. We are pawsitively passionate about all things we do, which include:
- Providing friendly customer service when Whiskers walks in looking for his purrfect new toy to paw at.
- We speak Pet; it may sound funny to humans, but we know what Polly the Parrot needs in her cage, what food Freckles the Hamster needs, and what special diet food Peanut Butter the Rottweiler should be on for his skin allergies.
- Helping customers like Lucy, who has just found her forever home, to find the right food and accessories for a pawsitive transition.
- Delivering world-class service and solid product knowledge to our customers.

The ideal employee is friendly, approachable, and ready to greet customers. You will assist with daily store operations, maintain a clean and organized sales floor, and help customers feel at ease. As a Shift Manager, you will drive sales goals and act as the Manager on Duty in the absence of the Store and Assistant Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prioritize, assign, and delegate daily goals, tasks, and assignments to the team, ensuring proper completion.
- Monitor customer service and sales performance, communicating observations to management.
- Recognize and celebrate team efforts and accomplishments.
- Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude, communicating effectively with staff and customers.
- Partner with the Store Manager to plan community events and develop relationships with rescue agencies.
- Lead by example in customer service, brand awareness, and loyalty.
- Ensure a safe and clean store environment, including proper animal care and feeding, and protect company assets.
Operations and Team Building
- Maintain store and brand standards, operational excellence, and safety compliance.
- Communicate store updates and ensure timely completion of required actions.
- Support inventory management, including placing orders within budget and driving sales.
Business Insight
- Monitor business performance throughout the shift and respond to needs accordingly.
Experience, Education, Certifications
- Minimum 1 year in a retail management role
- Enjoy working with and around animals
- College degree preferred
Job Requirements
- Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Heavy lifting up to 55 lbs required
- Active on the sales floor, standing and moving around
- Occasional work alone and in a temperature-controlled environment
- Potential for minor injuries from pets, slips, trips, and strains
