Legal Processor II – Sonoma County Sheriff's Office

Legal Processor II in the Civil Bureau supports the community by handling phone and email inquiries, assisting in‑person clients, processing legal and court documents, and communicating procedures and policies to attorneys, law enforcement, court personnel, and the general public.

Responsibilities
  • Answer phone and email inquiries from the public and assist in‑person clients.
  • Format complex court and legal forms.
  • Distribute time‑sensitive documents to all parties involved in a case.
  • Import documents and enter data into a central database.
  • Notice parties for hearings, including complicated adoption hearings.
  • Respond to questions regarding work entering or processed by the unit.
  • Adhere to strict deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Basic accounting experience.
  • Prior experience working in a law firm or courthouse.
  • Strong customer service and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse customer base and relay policies, laws, and procedures to the public.
  • Emotional intelligence and effective communication.
  • Attention to detail and passion for research.
  • Flexibility and priority‑setting based on laws and civil codes.
  • Experience with civil process software.
Minimum Qualifications
  • One year of work experience processing official records equivalent to Legal Processor I.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (if required by assignment; does not apply to all positions).
  • Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute (may be required for some assignments).
  • Successful completion of a thorough background investigation (may be required for some assignments).
Uniform Requirement

Legal Processors are required to wear a uniform during working hours.
